Spring Break 2025 – Arizona
Spring Break 2025 the family headed down to Arizona for a week in the sun. My parents have a house in Gilbert so we flew done to stay with them. We spent the first day of our trip just relaxing putting on their backyard green, sipping coffee, hitting the gym, and enjoying a dinner with entertainment at Organ Stop Pizza. We had a great time watching all the instruments play while we were singing along to the familiar songs.
The next day we went out to Surprise for Spring Training. My parents and brother came along. If you haven’t already guessed – our team is the Kansas City Royals (though it switches for some, Sam likes to follow players, so he recently is rooting most for the Dodgers.) We watched BP and Sam got autographs from a lot of players who have since come up and are doing really well (Cags, Loftin, Jensen…), we went to the game and walked around the stadium. Had some food, the boys bought souvenirs and we had a really great time.
The following day we headed to Sedona. We looked around the shops there. Ben found a record shop he liked. Sam found lots of little goodies. We threw snow on the roadside. Everyone’s favorite was the handmade pasta we had for dinner. It was an incredible meal. That night we stayed in a hotel and in the morning we drove to the Grand Canyon. We explored and hiked the south rim. Jeff and the boys had never been, so it was fun to see their reactions. I didn’t really remember it well so it was interesting to see it again. It sounds cliche, but it is unreal to experience how massive it really is. Jeff and I would really like to go back and do the rim to rim hike at some point. Another time…. Sam did his Junior Ranger packet and I fear this was it for those. Perhaps I will participate in the future..? I just have loved all of the insight we have gleaned from having those packets. I think Mom and Dad enjoyed doing it too.
We got to bed late after driving all the way back to Gilbert. That next day was a pool day. As was the day after. In fact we spent a lot of time in the pool the next few days. We also played games in the clubhouse, read a little, hit up IKEA, and ate dinner at Rustlers Roost. It was nice to get some time to relax. At the end of the week, it was a quick flight back home to Iowa. We fit in some adventures but found some down time too – a good mix.
